Cowgirl Season

I am super excited for summer! I cannot wait until I can go out and wear my summer clothes. I wanted to get a new outfit together that was in style. In my opinion, the cowgirl look is in. I think the outfit as a whole looks like a cowgirl style, but if worn individually the cowgirl personae would not be conveyed from the clothing/accessories. I used: a white dress, trench coat jean jacket, and brown cowboy boots. I like the outfit I put together, and will most likely wear it in the summer. I think I did good job of finding different items in my wardrobe that can come together to create a look that reflects ‘western wear.’

Disco Fever

I love painting. I wanted to paint something with bright colours. One of my favourite genres of music is Disco. I admire the signature disco moves, and wish I could dance like that all the time and not be laughed at. However, if the right song comes on I have no choice but to dance away my disco fever. This week I wanted to paint something with these neon colours I have at home. I put on a Bee Gees playlist and started to paint. I ended up with a picture that consists of what I like to call “Disco Flowers.” I would have loved to not use black in my picture, but the shapes did not stand out as much. Whenever I look at my picture, that I titled “Disco Times,” the song “You Should Be Dancing” by the Bee Gees goes off inside my head.

My Pretty Pink Toes

I wanted to paint my toes to show how excited I am for summer to arrive. I wanted to paint them, a vibrant, bright, pretty colour that represents spring. I initially was stuck between yellow and blue. My decision was final when I saw the colour of the cherry blossoms. I thought that there was no better way to represent spring than by using the pale pink colour of cherry blossoms. I was looking for a really pale pink and could not find it. However, I did find a really nice neon salmon colour which I think is a great colour to represent spring. To add a little something to the colour I put stickers and gems on the big toes on both my feet. The sticker is in the shape of a flower and I put a gem in the center. I think they turned quite pretty and I am excited to show them off when I start wearing my flip flops that expose my beautiful toe nails.

Tourist Victoria!

On March 7 2010 there was a twelve hour power outage across the whole campus at the University of Victoria. Although it was an inconvenience, it was interesting to have no power, and experience what it would be like. The campus having no power, no internet, and no food forced my friends and I to get out of our residence buildings and head somewhere other than the campus. We decided to go downtown Victoria, and be tourists for a day! We purchased these coupon books that gave us the chance to see some really interesting tourist attractions that the city of Victoria has to offer. We got to see the Underwater Gardens, Wax Museum, and Miniature World. A tourist is not complete without their camera. Therefore, I took numerous pictures wanting to document the wonderful, cute, and neat tourist attractions in the city of Victoria!

I never get a chance to write poetry. Being a business major, most of my English assignments consist of academic writing. It was nice to get a chance to just sit and wait for the words to come to me. I love poetry because I think it’s a beautiful to express what one is feeling. I loved having the chance to write a poem. I wanted it to be about one of the things I do when I am trying to kill time; I like to people watch.

I am the watcher.

I see a woman seated on a bench.

She sits, she waits, she eats.

Her grey suit signals importance.

She must be on her lunch break,

A final moment to herself in the day.

I can see the satisfaction on her face.

A hobby: people watch.

Couples walk hand in hand,

Smiling, and laughing.

Others are unsatisfied with the things of today.

People smoking, chanting on their cell phones

As if they are of only significance.

Everyone going to where they need to be,

A birds eye Kaleidoscope.

A bunny sniffs the ground for food.

Hoping its tail into the air,

Working its way across the green patch.

It comes near.

From my hand,

I give it a sunflower seed.

Heeled shoes hitting the cold pavement,

Clack, clack, clack.

A sound drifts away into the abyss, as one briskly walks by.

They all walk by.

And me?

I sit. I wait. I watch.

My Olympic Experience

The 2010 winter Olympics in Vancouver/Whistler, British Columbia is an experience that may or may never happen again. I went to Vancouver and Whistler for the 2010 winter games; it was awe-inspiring! I attended the free concerts that where being offered in Vancouver city and Whistler village. I saw three bands, but my favourite performance and the best live concert I have ever seen was “Deadmau5,” which was performed at Live City Yale Town, Vancouver. The concert was so enjoyable it was worth the wait in line for two hours. I even got to attend an Olympic sports event! I got to attned a Check Republic verse Slovakia hockey game, and it was really neat to see. I want to always remember this experience, therefore, I decided to make an online photo album about my interpretation of it. I tried to take pictures that really captured the moment.When I reflect on these pictures I can remember what I was exactly feeling at the moment the picture was taken. I really enjoyed having my home city host the 2010 winter games, and all in all, I think we did a tremendous job! It is definitely an experience I will remember forever, and if I ever forget something (which I don’t think I will) I can always refer to my photos!

My Life So Far

For my creative map I wanted to do a mix of things that I think represent my life so far. Thus, if I got a chance to name my map I would probably call it “My Life So Far.” My Life So Far consists mainly of symbols that represent things I have learned in my life, and things that I enjoy doing. It contains symbols that make up me. I decided to draw a bunny because I see them all the time now that I am attending the University of Victoria! However, I will always remember my Orca days being at high school, which was one of the best experiences of my life so far. My Life So Far also has things that I enjoy doing. I love to paint using bright colours, play piano, and go to the beach. The background being full of music notes, disco flowers, and different colours represent one of my current favourite things to do, which is to go out and dance! The tree in the center symbolizes a motto I have; there is always opportunity to grow and improve. My creative map is a reflection on my life that shows the different things I have done, and love to do, while being creative.

This weekend was my nineteenth birthday! =) I decided to make a bunny out of a Caribou beer can (a personal favourite). I decided to make a bunny because I felt like everywhere I looked there was a cute innocent little bunny living life to the fullest. This weekend I lived life to the fullest and I had a great time, however it is a big blur, like the swirls in the background. This picture basically explains the previous week….if you stare at it long enough.

Blog Relfection- More than a Mosquito

My name is Nicollette, and I have a grudge against mosquitoes! Over Christmas vacation I was lucky enough to go to Cuba with my family, but unfortunate enough to go home with seventy five mosquito bites just on my legs. My legs were covered with itchy red bumps. I had so many in one concentrated area that they all got infected. I don’t know if you have ever had an infected mosquito bite, but let me tell you they are painful and annoying! I was sleep deprived for weeks. I would wake up in the middle of the night with constant itching and nothing would make it stop, not even Benadryl, After Bite, or a prescription antihistamine cream. When I read the article Zen Theory and the Creative Course it was mentioned that people can get creative in marketing and advertising a product. I wanted to create something that would attract an audience with the desires of wanting the itching to stop forever. I got creative and invented a bomb made out of the most potent mosquito repellent. When the bomb is ignited it will blow up and wipe mosquitoes off the face of the earth for all eternity. That way no one else, including myself, would have to endure the uncontrollable frustration of a single mosquito bite again. When I created this product it is designed for anyone who has the same frustrations with mosquito bites as I do. Not being able to wear a certain outfit or piece of clothing because one is embarrassed by the look of all the red dots. Being distracted in such a way that all one can think of is how much he or she wants to scratch, breaking all possible concentration on something else. One simple bite can throw a whole day off, perhaps even an entire week.

I feel as though I’ve freed myself from all the frustrations I have with mosquitoes by creating this imaginary product. By telling others about my fantasy invention and explaining my reasons for creating such an idea I have gained new insight about myself and the world around me. I have discovered that many people share the same feelings as I toward mosquitoes. It has been brought to my attention that some people have experienced the same hardship as I have and some have even endured worse. Being given the chance to explore my imagination I have begun to look at many situations in a new light. I have come to the conclusion that realistically what I thought to be so horrible turns out to not be all that bad. Now when I look at the scars on my legs from the mosquito bites I find myself laughing at how bad it once was before, and know that it could be worse. I now wear what I would like and simply smile. Creativity has opened my eyes to new ways on how to deal with problems that I may face in the future. By expanding my creative mind I have unleashed the annoyance that has been festering in the deepest of my frustrations and feel much better about mosquitoes. In expressing hatred though a creative product one can be freed into a realm of humour and newly discovered positivity.
